Sticky: BREAKING & UPDATED: Body Found on Beach in Dewey ID’d

UPDATED STORY by Kelli Steele 11.30.12:  The State Medical Examiner has identified a man found on the beach in Dewey earlier this week.

Dewey Police say 51-year-old Christopher Page of Hamburg, New Jersey was found by a couple walking on the beach near Bellevue Street Tuesday morning.

Police Sergeant Cliff Dempsey confirmed to WGMD that a firearm was found nearby and earlier this week called the death a suicide.

Police say a motive for the shooting is still uncertain at this time.


UPDATED 12:15 PM BY ANDREW KOCH: Dewey Beach Police Sergeant Cliff Dempsey tells WGMD that the man who was found near the water on the beach at New Orleans Street died in an apparent suicide.

Dempsey says the man was found around 8 o’clock this morning by a pair of passersby walking on the beach. They told police that he appeared to be in distress. Dempsey says a gun was found near the man’s body, which had a gunshot wound.

The official cause and manner of death have to be determined through an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

UPDATED STORY @ 10:45 a.m.:  The body of a man in his late 60’s was found by a passerby washed up on the beach at Bellevue Street in Dewey Beach this morning.

Dewey Police told WGMD’s Andrew Koch that the body was believed to be that of a man in his late 60’s.

Police are currently calling the death a suicide. But an autopsy by the ME’s Office will determine the exact cause of death.


10:15 a.m.:  Dewey Beach Police are on the scene of Bellevue Street at this hour where a body was found washed up on the beach this morning.

Dewey Police tell WGMD’s Andrew Koch that the body of a man in his late 60’s was actually spotted on the beach around 8:15 this morning.

The Medical Examiner is currently on the scene.

Police tell WGMD, they believe the cause of death was suicide.
