UPDATE: Memorial Service Today for Millsboro Man Killed in Lewes Crash

UPDATED STORY 10.29.11:  A memorial service for the 22-year-old Millsboro man killed in a one car crash on Route 24 near Peddler’s Village last week, will be held today in New Castle County.

Delaware State Police say Nicholas Ventresca died at the scene of the crash on Friday, December 23.

Police say 20-year-old Dakota Sabia was westbound on Route 24 just before 1 a.m. in her 2009 Hyundai Elantra when, for an unknown reason, she lost control of the car and it began rotating in a counter clockwise direction.

Police say the car then crossed the center line, ran off the road and hit a tree. Ventresca was a passenger in the front seat. Sabia died a few hours after the crash at Beebe Hospital.

Today’s memorial service for Ventresca will begin at noon at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home in Newark. Visitation begins at 10 a.m.

UPDATED STORY 12.24.11: Delaware State Police have released the name of a 22-year-old Millsboro man killed in Friday morning’s crash in Lewes.

Police say Nicholas Ventresca died at the scene of the crash on Route 24 near Peddler’s Village.

UPDATED STORY 9:45 a.m.:  Two Millsboro residents were killed in this morning’s crash on Route 24 in Lewes.

Delaware State Police say 20-year-old Dakota Sabia was westbound on Route 24 just before 1 a.m. in her 2009 Hyundai Elantra when, for an unknown reason, she lost control of the car and it began rotating in a counter clockwise direction.

Police say the car then crossed the center line, ran off the road and hit a tree.

A 22-year-old, as-of-yet-unidentified, Millsboro man, who was seated in the front passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sabia was taken to Beebe Medical Center where she died just before 5:30 this morning.

Police say both Sabia and her passenger were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

UPDATED STORY 6:45 a.m.:  Delaware State Police have still NOT confirmed a possible fatal crash that occurred overnight on Route 24 near Peddler’s Village.

The road, between Peddler’s Village and Robinsonville Road has since been re-opened to traffic.

A witness tells WGMD News that the crash occurred around 1 a.m. and that there were two people in the car that ran off Route 24 into the woods; the witness says one person was taken to Beebe Hospital in critical condition; the other was pronounced dead at the scene.

Again, none of this has been confirmed by DSP yet this morning.

UPDATED STORY 5:45 a.m.: A possible fatal crash on Route 24 overnight has left the road closed to motorists this morning.

What we do know is that the crash occurred around 1 a.m.; what we don’t have yet, is confirmation from Delaware State Police if someone died in that crash; witnesses tell WGMD there were two people in the car that ran off Route 24 into the woods; the witness says one person was taken to Beebe Hospital in critical condition; the other was pronounced dead at the scene.

Again, none of this has been confirmed by DSP yet this morning.

Meantime, Route 24 from Peddler’s Village to Robinsonville Road remains closed at this hour.

ORIGINAL STORY 3:30 a.m.:  Route 24 between Peddler’s Village and Robinsonville Road is closed this morning due to an accident.

Delaware State Police and emergency personnel are on the scene.

The crash occurred around 1 a.m.

WGMD News will release more details as soon as DSP releases further information.

    I am so saddened to hear this, it is just tragic. Dakota was such a sweet, smart, beautiful girl. Just an angel with a beautiful smile and a kind heart. I did not know the young man but if he was with Dakota he must have been very special as well. My heart goes out to the familes of these two beautiful souls.
