Fatal Accident in Smyrna Kills One

Delaware State Police say alcohol may have been a factor in a two vehicle crash this morning that killed 22-year-old Brett Ellis of Smyrna.

Police say the crash happened just before 2 a.m.

30-year-old Cody Campbell of Trout Run, Pennsylvania was northbound on Route 13 approaching the intersection of Paddock Road in his Peterbilt tractor trailer; police say as his truck entered the intersection, it struck the right side of an Oldsmobile Cutlass that was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Route 13 onto eastbound Paddock Road.

Ellis was a passenger in that car; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, 23-year-old James Sommer of Townsend, was injured in the crash; he was taken to Kent General Hospital in Dover.

Campbell was not hurt.

Police say alcohol consumption on the part of Sommer is being considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
